Autumnal Equinox

WHAAATTT?

September 22nd marks one of two days a year when there are equal hours of both daylight and dark. This only happens twice a year, the other day, the Vernal Equinox occurring in March.

The Autumnal Equinox signifies the beginning of the Fall season and March 21st, the Vernal Equinox, is the beginning of the Spring season.

To mark this day at Semmes Middle School, sixth graders were allowed to wear pajama pants and slippers with uniform shirts. Several of the sixth grade teachers also dressed in "evening wear". This will surely keep the date of the change of seasons in their minds for years to come. Great teaching tool!
